Duties of advocate towards clients

There are rules of professional standards for all advocates including the criminal defence lawyer:

Rules defines 1. Duty of advocate towards Court, 2. Duty of advocate towards the client, 3. Duty of advocate towards opponents, 4. Duty of advocate towards fellow advocates.

Duties of advocate towards clients are as below: 
1. Advocate is bound to accept the brief. In special circumstances he may refuse to accept a particular brief, 
2. An Advocate should not ordinarily leave or withdraw from serving is client once agreed upon to serve, 
3. Advocate cannot appear in a matter where he himself is a witness, 
4. The Advocate is bound to make all full and frank disclosure regarding his interests, relating to the case and connection with the other parties, any controversy likely to effect the court judgement, 
5. Advocate is bounded to uphold interest of his client, 
6. Advocate should not suppress any material or any evidence from his client, 
7. Advocate should not disclose the communications between the client and himself, 
8. And advocate should not be a party to stir or instigat litigation, 
9. And advocate should not act on the instructions of any person other than his client or the client’s authorised agent, 
10. The Advocate should not charge the client depending on success of the matter, 
11. The Advocate should not receive interest in actionable claim, 
12. Advocate should not bid or purchase property arising of legal proceeding, 
13. Advocate should not bid or transfer property arising of Legal proceeding, 
14. The Advocate must not adjust fees against personal liability,
15. An advocate should not missuse or take advantage of the confidence reposed in him by his client, 
16. Advocate should keep proper accounts of money entrusted by client, 
17. The Advocate shall not divert any part of money from accounts received for expenses, without written instructions from the client, 
18. Advocate should intimate the client on amounts, 
19. The Advocate should adjust fees after termination of proceedings, 
20. The advocate should provide the copy of accounts after necessary copying charges are paid, 
21. An advocate shall not enter into arrangements whereby were funds in his hands are converted into loans, 
22. The Advocate should not lend money to his client, 
23. The Advocate should not appear for opposite parties in the same matter.
